At the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) a policy for research data management is being developed. The UvA and AUAS endorse what has been agreed on in (inter)national collaborations.
University policy
In april 2015, the Executive Board has established central guidelines for research data management (RDM) at the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. At the AUAS, these guidelines have been revised and established by the Executive Board in november 2018. UvA followed in January 2020. Faculties, research institutes and knowledge centers are now working on formulating local policies and instructions.
The UvA and the AUAS endorse The Netherlands code of conduct for academic integrity (2018). This code of conduct requires researchers, among other things, to:
organise and describe the collected research data, so they are verifiable and can be reused;
be careful in the management of both raw and processed research data and to keep them for a term that fits the discipline and methodology;
document the research process in protocols, logbooks or lab journals, to make the steps in that process verifiable;
make the research data publicly available after the research project has ended and, if that's not possible, to state the reason(s) why;
assist in making research data findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR).
Depending on your discipline, other codes of conduct may be important, e.g. regarding privacy, animal experiments, biosecurity and/or conflict of interest.
